Where we went, in general.
There is a map of Botswana to show where we were, in context. We travelled with my brother, David, and his wife, Jeanne, and their son, Michael. We flew London to Johannesburg (11 hours) followed by 50 minutes up to Gaborone where we stayed two nights. We went on to Serowe for two nights and visited Rob's parents' graves as well as the church there. We also had a good look round the Khama Rhino Sanctuary before going on to Rakops (NW of Serowe) to spend three nights with two days in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve.
After this we had a very long and hot drive across the Chobe Game Reserve to Kasane. We found out that the 4-wheel drive vehicle that we had rented didn't have working 4-wheel drive and we nearly ended up stranded in the sand overnight, having just seen three lions and a leopard crossing the road, at two different points. In Kasane we did lots of viewing of animal both from a boat on the Chobe River and in a vehicle starting at 6:00 in the morning.
This left us with two days to drive back to Gaborone, via an overnight stop in Francistown, to catch our flight back. We did spot a few more elephants but the most interesting was the Blacksmith Plover right next to the layby we used that was pretending to have a broken wing to distract us from its nest.
